All it took was one word for a handcuffed Tarell Bass to run from police on Saturday. That was “burglary,” authorities said.
The 26-year-old Fleetwing Drive resident was pulled over by police who told him to exit his vehicle after they discovered he had an active felony warrant for burglary charges out of Lawrence, N.J. against him at 2:49 p.m., according to court documents.

A police officer placed the Bass under arrest and walked him to the patrol car and opened the rear door. As the patrolman asked Bass to enter the back compartment of the vehicle, he “completed an evasive maneuver and began to escape away,” police said. All the while, his hands were restrained behind his back by handcuffs, court documents state.
The officer began to chase Bass into the Bloomsdale section and advised other officers of the direction of travel, police said. Another officer, according to authorities, was able to cut off Bass and detain him.
Bass said he heard the officer mention the word burglary and “snapped,” adding he decided to “just take off,” according to police.

Aside from the charges out of New Jersey, Bass was charged in Bucks County with escape, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest and driving under suspension.
He was arraigned before District Judge Joanne Kline and was sent to Bucks County jail on 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
