Middletown resident Deb Harker, who is part of a resident group supporting bringing MaST Charter school to Neshaminy, announced the nessesary1,000 signatures needed to appeal the school district vote to deny the charter school’s application have been reached.

The announcement was met with applause at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.
“This group has gathered 1,300 signatures to bring MaST Charter School to our district,” Harker told the board.
The appeal will next go to a state board for a ruling.

Jim Jenca, a resident of Middletown, said he hopes both MaST and the district can come to a compromise before the appeal reached the state level.
Despite a vocal group of residents supporting MaST opening a a K-12 school within district borders, the school board denied the application at a February meeting. The decision was upheld at a March meeting.

Board President Richie Webb said previously that MaST could be considered to open a facility in the district in the future.
Proponents of the charter school have said MaST provides an educational experience which better fits their students.
Neshaminy has already approved School Lane Charter School to open in the district. Officials said that charter school’s opening is expected in the next year or two.
