Just past 11:15 a.m., firefighters in Falls Township were called to a tractor-trailer ablaze on northbound Route 1 at the southbound Route 13 on-ramp.
Firefighters went to work dousing the burning cab with water, but flames had already spread to the load in the trailer of crushed vehicles.
Falls Township Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito said the fire stubbornly spread among the crushed vehicles and they had to be removed from the trailer, which lasted through the afternoon.

The driver of the truck was unhurt, but a firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening hand injury, Dippolito said.

The location of the fire led to water supply issues, requiring a tanker truck and engines to ferry water to the scene.
The cab of the tractor-trailer was completely destroyed by the blaze.
Traffic was backed up for hours on Route 1 and Route 13 due to the crash.
