A simple request by a driver trying to follow their employer’s policy led to an assault, according to Penndel Borough police.
This week, police announced they plan to charge a 41-year-old woman with simple assault, harassment, and disorderly conduct via summons after the alleged incident that happened on September 1.

Officers on that day were dispatched to a business on South Bellevue Avenue for a reported dispute between a Lyft driver and a rider, police said.
The driver relayed that the 41-year-old passenger refused to wear a face mask in the vehicle after multiple requests to comply with Lyft’s policy during the pandemic, police said.
The woman told the driver to take her to work, and she refused to exit the rideshare after the driver cancelled the trip, police said.

The driver opened the door to their car to remove the woman from the vehicle. At that time, the woman sprayed the driver with mace and walked away, police said.
While police announced the woman will be charged, those papers have not yet been filed with the district court. LevittownNow.com does not name defendants until they are charged in most cases.
