For the first time in its 40 years of operation, Sesame Place will be open through the winter.

While the theme park in Middletown Township is open for Halloween and holiday-themed events, Sesame Place announced this week that they will reopen for visitors in January, February, and March for Elmo’s Furry Fun Fest and Sesame Place’s 40th Birthday Drive-Thru.

The theme park will open for Elmo’s Furry Fun Fest Saturdays and Sundays from Saturday, January 30 through Sunday, March 21. The birthday drive-thru will be open Tuesdays and Wednesday from Tuesday, January 26 to Wednesday, February 24.

Visitors for Elmo’s Furry Fun Fest will get to take part in a birthday bash for Elmo, a pajama party hosted by Big Bird, a balloon scavenger hunt, a dance party, a neighborhood birthday party parade, and a family-friendly Mardi Gras celebration.

Sesame Place officials said the theme park will be decorated as a winter wonderful and will take physical distancing and COVID-19 precautions into mind.

Reservations will be required and 2021 Season Pass members will have free and discounted access.

“Adding January, February, and March for the first time to our schedule is a very exciting operational change for Sesame Place and we couldn’t be more excited to kick off a new year with new special events for our guests,” said Cathy Valeriano, the president of Sesame Place. “While we continue to operate safely with limited capacity, our guests now have the opportunity to experience even more fun with an event option for everyone in the family.”
