By Thursday night, the Regal United Artists Oxford Valley theater in Middletown Township will have closed its doors for an unknown amount of time.

Chain owner Cineworld Cinemas has decided to temporarily close all of its theater locations in the United Kingdom and United States. More than 540 Regal locations in America will be impacted by the closures brought on by COVID-19-related business impacts, according to a statement from the company and a CNN report.

NPR reported that 40,000 employees in the United States will be furloughed. It was not clear how many employees work at the Middletown Township location on the Oxford Valley Mall property.

Cineworld Cinemas CEO Mooky Greidinger told Deadline Hollywood earlier in the week that the decision had to do with the company seeking to preserve its resources as film studios push their money making tentpole features due COVID-19.

Greidinger said there was no firm timetable for reopening.

Competitor AMC Theatres, which operates a location at the Neshaminy Mall in Bensalem, plans to stay open during the pandemic.

Outside of Middletown Township, Cineworld Cinemas operates other locations in Bucks County under the Regal banner in Warrington, Doylestown Township, and Richland Township.
