Two dozen sick cats were surrendered after being located in an unheated car.
The cats were found Tuesday evening in the vehicle of a man who had been trying to keep them out of the elements off Plaza Boulevard in Morrisville Borough near the border with Falls Township, according to the Bucks County SPCA.

The cats were surrendered by the man and are being cared for as of Wednesday by the SPCA’s veterinary team. They are being treated for various ailments, including fleas, dehydration, and being underweight. All 24 are expected to survive, Bucks County Chief SPCA Police Officer Nikki Thompson said.
The man who kept the cats in the car will not face criminal charges. Thompson said the man was attempting to help the cats but things got out of hand.
“He had good intentions, but it was not executed well,” she said.

Based on the investigation, the cats appeared to come from a nearby apartment complex, Thompson said.
The chief SPCA officer said she is aware there are cat colonies in the area of Plaza Boulevard, and it’s not uncommon for people to leave their felines behind when they move from nearby apartments.

SPCA police received tips from the public and spent two days trying to track down the car.
“We are grateful for people who speak up on behalf of those who have no voice. Thanks to a tip received by Officer Thompson, two dozen sick and hungry cats were spared another night of exposure to below-freezing temperatures. They are now safe and warm, and getting much-needed medical care from our team,” said Linda Reider, the Bucks County SPCA’s executive director.
The cats are expected to be put up for adoption once their recovery is complete.

Thompson said residents with questions or concerns about pets and the welfare of animals can contact the SPCA before a situation can get out of control.
The 24 cats are being taken care of with help from the Bucks County SPCA Animal Relief Fund. Residents interested in helping can make donations online, by calling 215-794-7425, or by visiting the shelters in Lahaska and Quakertown.

In 2019, the Bucks County SPCA rescued a record-breaking 600 animals from cruelty and neglect.
