Students at Harry S. Truman High School are debuting the high school performance of Broadway musical “Kinky Boots” this week.
Starting Thursday evening, the students began performing the show at the Lou Volpe Auditorium inside the Bristol Township high school. Tickets for performances on Friday and Saturday can be purchased online.

Kinky Boots was inspired by a true story on a British man who inherited a shoe-making business from his father and revived it by creating shoes for men who performed as drag queens. The songs that are part of the musical were written by Cyndi Lauper and the story is based on the book by Tony Award-winner Harvey Fierstein.
Before hitting the stage, Kinky Boots was a feature film in 2005. Since being performed before audiences, the musical has received six Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The performance, which is the first at the high school-level, was licensed by Music Theatre International.

Truman has piloted Broadway-to-high school productions in the past starting with “Les Miserables” in 2001. They have previously also debuted “Rent” and “Spring Awakening.”
At one of the shows, representatives from Music Theatre International and creative team members from the Broadway production will be in attendance.
