A Pennsylvania State Police trooper died Saturday morning while on duty.
Trooper Donald C. Brackett, 58, suffered what appeared to be a medical episode on the Pennsylvania Turnpike near the Neshaminy Falls interchange in Bensalem.

Troopers from the Trevose and King of Prussia barracks rushed to the area after Brackett failed to respond to radio transmissions. He was found unresponsive outside of his patrol vehicle around 11:30 a.m., state police said.
Responding troopers performed CPR and medics transported Brackett to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, state police said.
“All personnel of the Pennsylvania State Police are deeply affected by this loss,” said Acting Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Lt. Col. Robert Evanchick. “Our thoughts are with Trooper Brackett’s family and friends as they mourn his sudden passing.”

Brackett, who was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, graduated from the 110th cadet class. He joined the state police in October 2001 and has worked out of the Trevose barrack and was most recently assigned to the King of Prussia station, which covers patrols of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Lower Bucks County.
Brackett’s passing marks the first police line of duty death in Bucks County since Middletown police Detective Christopher Jones was killed along Route 1 in 2009. The trooper’s death marks the thirteenth in the county.
