Serial Bank Robber Who Hit Middletown Branch Gets State Prison

A New York man who admitted to being a serial bank robber that targeted sites in Bucks, Montgomery, and Delaware counties in 2024 was sentenced Wednesday to nine to 18 years in state prison for the crime spree.

Marc Masich, 48, of Amherst, New York, previously pleaded no contest to felony robbery and five felony counts of robbery-inflicting or threatening serious bodily injury. He was ordered to serve consecutive terms of 18 to 36 months for each robbery count by Bucks County Court of Common Pleas President Judge Raymond McHugh.

Additionally, McHugh ordered Masich to pay $20,255 in restitution and that he have no contact with any of the six financial institutions or six employees involved.

“The swift arrest and state prison sentence are the direct result of exceptional inter-agency teamwork,” said District Attorney Joe Khan. “The defendant targeted multiple communities across Southeastern Pennsylvania, but our local police and prosecutors worked together to ensure his spree ended swiftly. Our county is safer today with him off the streets.”   

Masich was charged Christmas Eve 2024 with numerous felonies, including robbery, robbery of a financial institution, terroristic threats, and related offenses.

He has been incarcerated since December 2024 at Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10% of $2 million cash bail, per court records.

At 5:13 p.m., Masich entered the Santander Bank at 1425 Street Road in Bensalem Township. He was still wearing the face mask, and when employees told him he had to lower it, he left the bank without incident, police said. .

A detective in Middletown Township then advised Bensalem Township police over the radio that Masich may be driving a small black Nissan sedan as they had a similar bank robbery on December 12, police said.

At 5:21 p.m., a Bensalem Township officer was checking the parking lot of the PNC Bank at 3707 Hulmeville Road. He observed a male walking from a parked vehicle into the bank. The officer noticed that the black Nissan sedan the male was walking away from was running and did not have a registration plate on the back, police said.

Moments later, police observed Masich running from the bank’s front door carrying a gray/white bag, police said. Masich was taken into custody without incident.

The tellers at the PNC Bank reported that they were handed a demand note similar to the one used 20 minutes earlier at TD Bank, police said. The teller emptied the drawer and handed Masich about $4,000 in cash, police said.

Masich placed the money into a white “Bank of America” bag that he had brought with him and fled into the waiting arms of Bensalem Township officers just outside, according to police.

Moments later, police observed Masich running from the bank’s front door carrying a gray/white bag, police said.

Masich was taken into custody without incident.

When interviewed, Masich admitted to the robbery at PNC Bank and attempted robbery at TD Bank, per authorities.

He also revealed that he was going to rob the Santander Bank, but he got scared and left the bank when employees told him to take his mask off, police said.

Masich also admitted to three other bank robberies using the same demand note at the Santander Bank in Middletown Township, the Santander Bank in Montgomery Township, and the Truist Bank in Newtown Square, Delaware County, police said.

Bensalem Township police worked with the FBI and other local law enforcement to determine if Masich was involved in similar bank robberies in Southeastern Pennsylvania, police said.

“This case is a great example of how timely communication and strong partnerships between local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies lead to successful outcomes,” Middletown Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said. “I’m proud of our detective, Jake Gallagher’s, quick recognition of the suspect vehicle and the collaborative effort that helped bring a dangerous serial bank robber to justice.” 

The case was investigated by the Middletown Township Police Department and Bensalem Township Police Department, and were assisted by neighboring municipal law enforcement agencies, the FBI, and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office. This case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney A.J. Garabedian.
