The Neshaminy School Board is raising taxes to cover expenses for the 2026-2027 school year.

The school board voted last week to pass the $228,705,334 spending plan. It included a 4.1 percent tax increase.

The district projects it will bring in more than $161 million in local tax revenue and nearly $59 million in state funding. Federal funding is expected to bring in $2.7 million, marking a decrease of several million dollars compared to a few years ago.

The district is facing ongoing cost increases across multiple categories, including salaries, benefits, pension commitments, and supplies, according to information from a budget planning session held this spring.

As has been the case in previous years, personnel costs remain the largest use of the district’s finances. The newly approved budget allocates just over $150 million to cover employee salaries, benefits, and pensions.

The tax hike follows a 4.7 percent property tax increase approved by the school board last year.

During last week’s meeting, Superintendent Jason Bowman welcomed several new teachers who will join the district for the upcoming school year.

“It’s a big deal getting your first teaching contract,” Bowman told the new hires. “It’s a 30-year commitment that we make to you and hopefully you make to us.”
