Warrants Issued For Contractor In Lower Bucks County Fraud Cases

A 46-year-old Delaware man is facing charges in Bucks County for allegedly committing contractor fraud by taking advance payments for hail-damaged homes and failing to complete the repairs, according to authorities.

John D. Paoletti, 46, the owner of Choice Remodeling and Restoration, has warrants out for him after he has been charged in four separate cases of theft and fraud, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Confirmed losses in the current cases exceed $80,000, prosecutors said.

Criminal complaints filed by the Morrisville Borough and Lower Makefield Township Police Departments show a pattern of alleged fraud.

Paoletti is accused of soliciting and accepting large upfront payments for home improvement projects, renovations or materials, police said. 1

After receiving the funds, Paoletti allegedly failed to complete the contracted work or, in some cases, failed to start the project at all.

When victims demanded their money back, Paoletti is accused of becoming unresponsive, avoiding contact or, in one instance, allegedly telling a victim they could only receive a refund if they did not follow through with criminal charges, police said.

According to investigators, a Morrisville victim lost more than $10,700 when Paoletti failed to repair his roof, a Lower Makefield Township victim reported a loss of over $17,500 after Paoletti failed to make repairs to his home, another Morrisville victim is out nearly $46,000, and Paoletti received a $12,500 insurance check but failed to complete the contracted repairs for nearly a year.

Paoletti faces multiple counts, including home improvement fraud, deceptive business practices, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property.

The cases were filed last year and the most recent this week, according to records from Morrisville Borough and Lower Makefield Township police.

Authorities believe Paoletti, who has known ties to Morrisville, as well as Millsboro and Hockessin, Delaware, may have committed similar deceptive practices in other area.

There are likely numerous unidentified victims, according to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone who hired Paoletti or his company Choice Remodeling and Restoration for home improvement work, paid him in advance, and the work was never completed or money was not refunded, is asked to contact police or the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
