Working smoke detectors alerted a resident whose house caught fire Saturday morning.

Firefighters were dispatched at 11 a.m. to a home on King Apple Lane in the Levittown section of Bristol Township after a resident reported smoke in the area of a water heater.
Crews arrived and found flames in the area of water heater and extending on the first floor of the house, Edgely Fire Company Chief Brian Cirard said.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, Cirard said.

No injuries were reported.
Bristol Township Deputy Fire Marshal Alex DelVecchio said the blaze started in the closet where the water heater was located.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to help the residents with temporary housing.
Cirard said the working smoke detectors in the residence alerted the occupants of the fire.
Due to the cold weather, the Bristol Township Public Works Department was summoned to the scene to spread salt on the road to avoid the water from turning into ice.
