A large brush fire that ignited in the Idlewood woods and the old quarry near Neshaminy High School brought firefighters from across Bucks County on Sunday.

The blaze was first reported in the morning and was spreading through dry brush, trees, and branches in the area nestled between the high school and Neshaminy Creek in Middletown Township, according to officials.

By late afternoon, the majority of the fire had been extinguished, but firefighters continued to address remaining hot spots into the evening, Parkland Fire Company Chief TJ Stressman reported.
One of the primary challenges faced by responders was the difficult terrain, including rocky ground, dense woodland, and steep quarry cliffs.

Crews tackled the flames on foot, stretched hoses over long distances, and deployed specialized trucks and off-road vehicles designed for handling brush and wildfires.

Firefighters used skid-steer loaders to access the wooded area to fight the flames.

Firefighting units from as far afield as Buckingham Township and New Hope Borough joined forces with local Lower Bucks County crews, according to dispatches.
Additional support came from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which dispatched wildfire crews and trucks from both the Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley regions.

Complicating the firefighting efforts were the limited water sources in the wooded and quarry areas, leading to the use of tanker trucks to transport water to the scene, according to dispatches.
The Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry, which manages the state’s wildland firefighting efforts, highlighted that the peak danger periods for wildfires in the region are typically March, April, May, October, and November, when conditions are often right for wildland fires.
