Situated in the Lincoln Plaza shopping center off East Lincoln Highway near Oxford Valley Mall, the Middletown Township Amazon Fresh store is currently hiring both part-time and full-time positions, according to job postings.

There has been no word on an official opening date, and an Amazon Fresh spokesperson had no comment.

“They’re busy with the final touches, but the major installations look complete. It’s down to the smaller details now,” a contractor who was recently inside the store told LevittownNow.com.

According to the contractor, the store’s bakery section has been completed, aisle signage is up, and the installation of shelving and coolers for perishable goods is almost done.

A worker at a neighboring business said they have noticed increased activity at the site, including HVAC work.

Jim Ennis, Middletown Township’s director of building and zoning, said in May that Amazon received its initial permits back in 2021, and the project has undergone several revisions since.

Although the façade was finished in 2022, interior work was delayed as Amazon Fresh reevaluated its grocery rollout strategy.

A strategic pause in expansion was noted by Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy last year.

“We’ve decided over the last year or so that we’re not going to expand the physical fresh doors until we have that equation with differentiation and economic value that we like, but we’re optimistic that we’re going to find that,” Jassy said.

Following successful redesigns and positive customer feedback in Chicago and Southern California, Amazon resumed its expansion and added new features like as enhanced department layouts, an expanded selection of grab-and-go foods, and lower prices. Some locations even include a Krispy Kreme outlet, according to the company.

The Middletown store will have a liquor license acquired from the now-closed Ground Round. The license will allowing the store to sell beer and wine, similar to the strategy by Giant Food Stores and Shop Rite.

The Bensalem Township opening on Thursday had a long line and the store appeared busy.
