Traffic stoppages and delays are expected this week as PennDOT moves forward with the rebuild of Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships.

From Monday, April 29, to Friday, May 3, nightly lane closures will affect Old Lincoln Highway (Business U.S. 1) between Harris Avenue and the Route 1 overpass in Middletown Township.
The disruptions are scheduled from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning and will include intermittent 15-minute stoppages in both directions, according to PennDOT.
Traffic control will be managed by flaggers at the work site.

The closures are needed for the installation of a drainage pipe for the ongoing Route 1 overhaul project, PennDOT said.
PennDOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time due to expected backups and delays in the area.

All scheduled work is contingent upon weather conditions.
PennDOT is in the middle of a large project to reconstruct, widen, and improve a three-mile section of Route 1 in Bensalem and Middletown townships.
The Route 1 project is on Phase 2. The second phase will widen the highway.

The $95 million Phase 1 of the project in Bensalem Township is mostly completed.
The $111.5 million Phase 2 of the project is being carried out by Chester County-based contractor JD Eckman Inc. The work is expected to be done in mid-2026.

A planned third phase would begin at the Penndel Interchange and continue just past the Pine Street (Route 413) overpass in Middletown Township.
