Police were spotted at the campus and around the surrounding neighborhood in Falls Township.

Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith issued the below statement just past 11:20 a.m.:

At approximately 11 a.m., during the class change at the high school, a student reported that they heard a “gunshot” coming from a nearby neighborhood. Students on the path were instructed to return to the buildings. The police were called immediately, and all students were secured in the buildings.

The police investigated and believe the sound was generated by landscaping equipment being used nearby. They have cleared the area and the high school will be returning to normal functioning shortly.

Students and parents reported a chaotic scene in the school’s two buildings as as rumors spread of a possible trespasser or gunshot.

A parent said the incident happened only minutes after a planned drill at the high school ended.
