Firefighters were dispatched to the 1000 block of Main Avenue in Bristol Township’s Croydon section at 6:21 a.m. for an alarm call. Upon arrival, Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon, who was two blocks from the home when the call came in, found fire showing from the rear of the dwelling.

The chief upgraded the call to a working house fire and brought in additional crews.

Firefighters were able to put down the flames, but the home suffered heavy smoke and heat damage, Tryon said.

No injuries were reported.

Bristol Township Deputy Fire Marshal Brian Gerhard said the fire started on a rear porch near a heat lamp for a turtle.

Cold and icy conditions made for harsh conditions, but Tryon said firefighters overcame the conditions and battled the blaze.
