Firefighters were called to the 1100 block of Tacoma Street in Bristol Township at 3 a.m. for a report of a blaze.

The first reports to responding crews were that the resident was inside and refusing to leave, but it turned out no one was inside the home, Third District Fire Company Chief Howard McGoldrick said.

The fire was on the first floor and in the basement, McGoldrick said.

“We made a very aggressive interior attack to get to the bedrooms,” the chief stated, citing the initial reports of someone inside.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control by 4:25 a.m.

The home was undergoing a renovation at the time of the blaze, the fire marshal said.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said his investigation determined the fire started on the outside and extended into the residence.

The investigation into the cause remained active as of daybreak on Friday.

The homeowner did not have insurance on the dwelling, Dippolito said.
