On the evening of Tuesday, August 29, Bristol Borough fire crews were called to the Dollar General in the 600 block of Route 13 for a spill.

Bristol Borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said the store dumped 100 to 150 gallons of bleach and other household cleaning fluids into a dumpster.

After being dumped, the cleaning liquids and chemicals began to spill out and go into the stormwater system, the chief said.

Dispatch records showed local firefighters and the county’s hazmat team were dispatched to the scene.

Slack said crews were on the scene for 12 hours due to the dumping of the fluids.

The borough contracted with an environmental cleanup company to mitigate the spill.

Bucks County spokesperson James O’Malley said none of the fluids reached Silver Lake, which sits only a few hundred feet away.

In the wake of the spill, residents reported seeing crews cleaning storm drains in the area.

It was not immediately clear if Dollar General will have any repercussions for the spill.
