The fire was reported just past 4 a.m. in the 40 block of Favored Lane, and crews arrived to the scene to find flames in the home.

Edgely Fire Company Chief Brian Cirard said there were seven adults and one child who lived there.

One adult resident suffered smoke inhalation and minor burns. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment, Cirard said.

The chief said firefighters encountered hoarding conditions inside the home, slowing firefighting efforts.

Due to the heat and conditions inside the home, it took firefighters 42 minutes to bring the flames under control, Cirard told LevittownNow.com.

Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito said the fire was caused by an overloaded power strip.

Dippolito said one of the residents in the home was awake and alerted the others to the blaze.

The home was left severely damaged and uninhabitable, officials said.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the residents with temporary housing and essentials.
