Local Movie Theater Will Stay Open As Owner Closes Dozens Of Locations

Amid a bankruptcy and the closings of dozens of locations, including one in Bucks County, the Regal United Artists Oxford Valley theater in Middletown Township will remain open for now.

Business Insider reported late in the week that parent company Cineworld will close 39 Regal locations in the U.S. That number is on top of 12 that have already been shuttered.

The publication said Cineworld plans to reject leases for locations starting in mid-February.

The Regal Barn Plaza in Doylestown Township is among the 39 locations to close.

The Middletown Township and Warrington Township Regal locations are not listed as closing at the moment.

The Regal Richland Crossing theater in Upper Bucks County closed for good in September.

British-based Cineworld Cinemas is cutting costs and debt after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year. The company is the second-largest movie theater chain in America.

Many movie theaters struggled during the pandemic and the industry has slowly emerged from the pandemic. The Regal United Artists Oxford Valley theater was closed for a year during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it reopened to customers in 2021.

The Regal United Artists Oxford Valley is the only cinema in the Levittown area, but there is an AMC Theater not far away in Bensalem Township.
