The Middletown Township-based Uptown String Band played during the famous New Year’s Day Mummers Parade.

The string band’s colorful performance was titled “Safari So Good” and featured creative costumes and artwork.
“Wow! We are so proud of our 2023 performance of โSafari So Goodโ!! 364 Days till next year, let the preparations begin,” the Uptown String Band posted on Facebook after the parade.
The Philadelphia String Band Association reported the Uptown String Band placed ninth out of 14 bands during the parade. (Click here to see the full results)

The parade was aired and streamed on MeTV Delaware and Lehigh Valley station WFMZ. Previously, the parade was broadcast on WPHL-TV.

The Uptown String Band was founded in 1937 and first performed in the 1938 Mummer’s Parade. The band is based at their hall at the Parkland Fire Company station in Middletown Township’s Parkland section.
