Bristol Borough has contracted with Burlington, Massachusetts-based Everbridge’s Nixle to provide use of their alerting system. In summer, Bristol Borough Council agreed to pay Nixle $4,665 for the first year and $4,320 in the years after for the system.

The borough plans to use the system to alert residents of public safety incidents, road closures, upcoming impacts due to events, flooding information, and other priority messages.

Bristol Borough Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III said the tool will allow residents and visitors who sign up for Nixle alerts to be notified in real time.

“It really is something that will truly benefit the residents and visitors to Bristol Borough,” he said.

Residents can get alerts via text, email, an app, and by voice call.

Nearby towns, including Middletown Township and Morrisville Borough, have used Nixle in the past for emergency communications. In Montgomery County, Hatboro Borough uses the system to alert residents and visitors of road closures and snow emergencies.

DiGuiseppe said the borough will work to promote the app.

We just believe this is going to provide a good amount of information to our residents and people visiting Bristol Borough. This can only benefit everyone living here or coming here,” the mayor said.

Bristol Borough residents can sign up by texting “BristolBoro” to 888777, visiting the Nixle website, or download the Everbridge app.
