The dress code at Bristol Borough High School will be evaluated with input from students.

Over the past few years, some students have taken issue with the high school’s dress code that requires students to “dress modestly and in good taste at all times.” Some students have felt the policy targeted female students and was outdated.

Interim Superintendent Dr. Broadus Davis said recently that the high school will be establishing a task force with students on it to discuss the dress code.

“We have work to do,” he said, while noting most students are dressing appropriately.

“By allowing [students] into the process, I believe we can only make our dress code better,” Davis added.

High schoolers planned a student protest in 2021 over the issue, but it was called off after administrators met with the students.

While the high school hasn’t required uniforms and there has been no talk of instituting them, the elementary and middle school had once since 2010. The lower-grade school uniform policy was made optional last year.

Davis, who is filling the superintendent role until the school board hires a permanent replacement, was the superintendent in 2010 when the previous elementary and middle school uniform policy was put in place after two years of study.
