There will be a Juneteenth celebration Sunday in Bristol Borough.

The Lower Bucks County Juneteenth Celebration Committee will be hosting a free cultural celebration along the riverfront from noon to 5 p.m. to mark the occasion.
The event will feature activities for kids, a car show, vendors, food, entertainment, and a pop-up health fair.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the event will feature local artists and performers and presentations.

From 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a car audio and sound battle.
Prior to the festival at 9 a.m., there will be a worship service with the Concerned Pastors of Bristol group.

Bristol Borough hosted Juneteenth for its first local celebration last year.
The date marks the emancipation of the last large group of enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865. President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation that freed slaves as of 1863, but Confederate states didn’t recognize it during the Civil War.
Last year, President Joe Biden signed a bipartisan piece of legislation into law making Juneteenth a federal holiday. The day is the 12th federal public holiday and the latest since President Ronald Reagan signed the law that created Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.
