Bristol Township has three new residents, and they were welcomed recently with much fanfare.

Late last month, a structure on Winder Drive became home to Melissa and her two sons, Tommy and Gavin. The home was made possible by Habitat for Humanity of Bucks County.

Melissa and her sons moved from a one-bedroom apartment into the three-bedroom, ranch-style home, which allows space for everyone, according to the nonprofit group.

โ€œMy biggest dream for myself and sons was a houseโ€”one we can call our own; one that no one can take from us; one we can put the hard work in to make it what we want. I was a kid without these things: no house, no home, and no stability. I strive to be the opposite! This is a dream come true,โ€ Melissa said.

“A lot has happened in my life and I never thought I would have a house, so I’m super thankful,” Melissa said. “We really appreciate everyones’ help.”

More than 95 volunteers gave over 1,008 hours of service to complete the home.

The renovated home worked on by the nonprofit, volunteers, and Melissa was welcomed by the community.

Winder Drive residents clapped as organization Executive Director Florence Kawoczka mentioned the project revitalized a once-blighted home.

โ€œAt Habitat Bucks we believe that affordable housing plays a critical role in strong stable communities. Experts also draw a straight line between housing quality and the wellbeing of children,โ€ said Stacey Mullholland, the vice president of the local Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.

The lead sponsors of the project were Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Bucks County Foundation, County of Bucks, DOW, First Bank, and William Penn Bank.
