There were 424 new infections confirmed in the county last week, a drop from the 742 the week prior, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Of note, the number of new infections is likely an under count as many at-home positive tests aren’t recorded in the official number.

In recent weeks, cases have been dropping across the state and nation.

In the first week of 2022, there were a record high of close to 10,000 new cases reported over a seven-day period.

Bucks County’s COVID-19 test positivity rate fell from 6.6 percent to 5 percent. A test positivity rate higher than 5 percent means health experts consider the spread of COVID-19 uncontrolled.

With the majority of Bucks Counians being vaccinated and more information on COVID-19 mitigation and treatments known, a more important figure has become the number of hospitalizations and deaths among those with COVID-19.

The Bucks County Health Department reported there were 46 local residents in hospitals with COVID-19, four in intensive care, and three on ventilators as of Wednesday. The numbers mark drops over recent weeks.

Local hospital data from the Bucks County Health Department showed the majority of those in hospitals with COVID-19 and receiving the most serious care were unvaccinated, with three of four intensive care patients unvaccinated and all three COVID-19 patients on ventilators ubvaccinated.

The Bucks County Department of Health considers people with two shots fully vaccinated and uses that for their metric, while federal officials consider someone fully vaccinated when they have three shots.

Deaths of COVID-19 patients in the county slightly rose last week from four the week prior to seven reported.
