A brazen daytime catalytic converter theft in Bristol Township was captured on video.

Bristol Township police are investigating the theft that happened around 2:40 p.m. last Thursday at a home on Century Avenue, which sits about half a mile from the police station.
The video shows the two suspects arriving at the home in a 2014 to 2016 Kia Sportage that was either black or gray in color.
The two suspects worked to quickly raise the resident’s Toyota Prius and cut away the catalytic converter before fleeing.

Police are asking for assistance from the public.

Over the past two years, the area and region has had numerous thefts of catalytic converters. Most of the thefts reported locally happen overnight and daytime thefts are more rare.
While there have been several arrests of suspects, thefts have remained a constant.
Catalytic converters are easy to steal if you have the know-how and tools. Once stolen, the exhaust emission control devices are harvested of the small amount of the precious metals like platinum, palladium, or rhodium they contain.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that thieves can fetch hundreds of dollars for selling the precious metals found in catalytic converters. Local police have said the crooks benefit from the increased value of previous metals amid national supply chain issues.
