Philadelphia-based Comcast announced it is equipping the Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter in Bristol Township’s Levittown section with a new WiFi system.
The company that has its roots in cable TV will be adding the “Lift Zone” at the shelter to provide reliable, high speed internet service that will help those being served by the shelter with easy access to education, research, job training programs, and other online career services.

The Bucks County Emergency Homeless Shelter is owned and operated by the nonprofit Family Service Association of Bucks County and is a critical resource for individuals and families who have lost safe and stable housing in the county.
“Last year, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we served 396 people, including 130 children, at the shelter. The pandemic made our shelter’s daily operations significantly more challenging for the individuals and families we serve, but that is why we are so grateful to Comcast for their help equipping our shelter as a Lift Zone,” said Family Service Association CEO Julie Dees.
Comcast also provided a Lift Zone to YWCA Bucks County’s Creekside Community Center in Bensalem Township.

The Lift Zones are part of Comcast’s $1 billion dollar investment over 10 years to support digital equity. It complements Comcast’s Internet Essentials program that has helped more than 20,000 Bucks County families connect to high-speed internet for a reduced price.
“The pandemic has put many low-income families at risk of being left behind, and we’re proud to work with community partners to support them with Internet adoption and digital equity programs like this one,” said Jim Samaha, senior vice president of Comcast’s Freedom Region. “We hope these Lift Zones help Bucks County families stay connected to vital resources.”
