Work on a new Wawa with gas pumps started recently.

Crews have been seen installing infrastructure and grading the site along East Lincoln Highway in Middletown Township across from the Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad building over the past few weeks. Construction of the roughly 5,000-square-foot store is likely to begin within weeks.

The new location was approved by the Middletown Township Board of Supervisors in 2019.

The new Wawa will have a main entrance and exit along Lincoln Highway. A traffic signal will be added.

The location for Wawa is along busy East Lincoln Highway, close to I-295, and not far from Route 1. It sits under a mile from the Wawa on Trenton Road and just two miles from the Wawa with a gas station on Oxford Valley Road, both in Middletown.

The new location will have 60 parking spots and a stormwater basin that will have trees planted around it. The property backs up to township-owned woodland.

For years, Wawa looked at constructing the convenience store and gas station on a lot off West Lincoln Highway in Penndel. Those plans fell through and Wawa moved in late 2018 to build their new location up the road at the 1.8-acre site that formerly housed a car dealership that had moved.
