Movie theater operator Cineworld Cinemas is considering temporarily idling its locations, including the Regal United Artists Oxford Valley theater in Middletown Township.

Entertainment trade publication Variety reported that Cineworld Cinemas was considering a temporary closure of its locations in the United Kingdom and United States. The publication noted that the 543 Regal locations in American could be impacted by the potential closures brought on by COVID-19-related business impacts.

“We can confirm we are considering the temporary closure of our U.K. and US cinemas, but a final decision has not yet been reached. Once a decision has been made we will update all staff and customers as soon as we can,” a tweet from Cinewold Cinemas’ corporate account said.

The trade publication reported that the temporary closures could come as soon as this week if the company moves forward with the plan.

Regal United Artists Oxford Valley sits on the Oxford Valley Mall campus and reopened in summer after weeks of closure due to COVID-19 mitigation measures.
