A Middletown Township man has been accused of punching a nurse.

Falls Township police were dispatched to the area of Trenton and Tyburn roads for a reckless driving complaint of a silver van swerving all over the road around 12:30 p.m. last Wednesday. An officer pulled up to find a silver van on the grass outside of Calvary Full Gospel Church. The van was in neutral and Nidas Akelis, 58, of Middletown Township, was in the driver’s seat, according to court papers.

Police said a nearly empty bottle of vodka was located in the center console and Akelis smelled heavily of alcoholic beverage.

When the officer gestured toward Akelis if he had been drinking, the 58 year old man smiled and said yes, police said.

Akelis was unsteady on his feet and needed help standing, police said.

Akelis was transported to Jefferson Bucks Hospital so a blood sample could be taken.

At the hospital around 1 p.m., Akelis consented to giving blood and then punched a nurse in the breast area with a closed fist, police said.

Akelis was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and DUI. He was arraigned by District Judge Jan Vislosky and jailed on 10 percent of $200,000.
