Extra officers and troopers will be patrolling Bucks County looking for possible impaired drivers this holiday weekend.
Roving enhanced DUI enforcement will be taken on by the Falls Township Police Department, Lower Southampton Township Police Department, Middletown Township Police Department, New Britain Township Police Department, Newtown Township Police Department, Penndel Borough Police Department, and Warrington Township Police Department. The Pennsylvania State Police will also be stepping up enforcement.

The enhanced enforcement by local police is set to begin at 10 p.m. Saturday and end at 3 a.m. Sunday.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said the timing is targeted for hours when most fatal DUI crashes happen.
“Please celebrate safely this July 4th,” said District Attorney Matt Weintraub. “Don’t drink or do drugs and drive. Stay safe, and alive.”

PennDOT data indicated that there were 241 alcohol-related crashes, resulting in seven fatalities, in the state during the Independence Day holiday driving period last year.
The state police will be conducting their stepped up enforcement during the entire holiday weekend.

“Troopers have zero-tolerance toward driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” said state police Commissioner Robert Evanchick. “As more Pennsylvanians begin to travel again, it is imperative to remember that the most important steps we can take to keep ourselves and our passengers safe on the road are to buckle up, slow down, and never drive while impaired or distracted.”
Bucks County enforcement is funded through a PennDOT grant, and the state police patrols will be paid for through a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration grant.
