The first fire was reported around 9:10 a.m. in the 1800 block of East Lincoln Highway at Piazza Volkswagen.

Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said a discarded cigarette ended up causing a blaze that spread into a void space in the wall, forcing fire crews to have to cut into the building to extinguish the fire. The fire was stopped before it spread further and caused additional damage.

The second fire happened around 10:40 a.m. at a home in the 20 block of Canoebirch Road in the township’s Levittown section.

A pile of ash that was discarded in a trash can Monday morning following a Sunday evening backyard fire to make s’mores ended up igniting and causing damage to the side wall of the home before being fully put out by fire crews, McGuire said.

The fire marshal said residents should always wait and be sure ashes from outdoor fires are full extinguished before placing them in trash cans. He said it can take several days for ashes to be full snuffed out.

The Canoebirch Road fire was spotted by two kids playing in a neighboring yard and reported to an adult, who contacted 9-1-1. McGuire said the quick reaction likely spared the home from more damage.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
