Amazon is looking to open a facility at a Bensalem warehouse that sits about 1,000 feet from Bristol Township’s Croydon section.

The Philadelphia Business Journal broke the news this week that Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo said Amazon has their eyes on the new I-95 Trade Center in the 3700 block of State Road and has met with Bensalem officials. The company is seeking more room for parking and looking at purchasing or leasing additional property.

Plans for the I-95 Trade Center shows more than 175 parking spots for cars and just under 60 for tractor-trailers.

“After that meeting, we told them what we could do to help them and that we could try to expedite some things,” Bensalem’s mayor told the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“Amazon is a dynamic business and we are constantly exploring new locations and weighing a variety of factors when deciding where to develop future sites to best serve customers, however, we have a policy of not commenting on our future roadmap and are not yet commenting on any specific operations plans in Pennsylvania,” Amazon regional spokesperson Rachael Lightly told the Doylestown Intelligencer.

The I-95 Trade Center, which was constructed over the past year, was expected to a create of jobs in the area once a tenant was found. It was not clear how many jobs an Amazon distribution facility would add.

A sales brochure for the I-95 Trade Center uses its size and access to I-95, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Route 1, Route 13, and Street Road as selling points. It also heralds its proximity to Philadelphia and New Jersey and easy access to rail lines.

For the past few months, Amazon has been rumored as the future tenant of the new 235,240-square-foot facility.

The I-95 Trade Center was built at the former headquarters of Charming Shoppes, which was sold and moved their operations several years ago. Previous to construction of the warehouse, the retail company headquarters was a multi-story office building.

Amazon has opened numerous warehouses in the Philadelphia region in recent years. Within 10 miles, the company operates warehouses in Burlington, New Jersey; Florence, New Jersey; and on Cabot Boulevard in Middletown.

Both Bristol Township and Bensalem submitted applications to become home to Amazon’s second headquarters. Both lost out in the North American competition.
