A lightning strike caused a rooftop chimney to explode in Bristol Borough.

The lightning strike during an afternoon storm hit the brick chimney in the 400 block of Logan Street just before 4:30 p.m. It ended up blowing out bricks from the chimney, breaking a window of a neighbor’s home, and causing a minor gas leak, borough Fire Chief Herb Slack said.

PECO was called due to the minor gas leak.

While the lightning strike did cause limited damage, it did not lead to a fire, Slack said.

No injuries were reported.
