A group of local elementary school students recently acted as Falls Township’s police chief for a day.
The group of 17 students from Eleanor Roosevelt, Fallsington, Manor, Penn Valley, and Oxford Valley elementary schools along with the Pen Ryn School took part in the program.

The students were picked for the Chief for the Day program after recommendations from teachers and school administrators.
Falls Township police Chief William Wilcox said the program started three years ago and was designed to help improve community relations between the public and law enforcement.
“My main thing during the program was to make sure [the kids] were having a good time,” the chief said.

Students met with the chief and they got to know one another. From there, the chief took the students to District Judge Jan Vislosky’s court to be “sworn in” and take an oath. They received a badge and visited the police station, meeting the staff, going over cases, and lifting fingerprints with detectives.
At the June Falls Township Board of Supervisors, the students received recognition from the chief.
“You should be very proud of your boys and girls. They were polite, they were astute and attentive,” Wilcox told parents.

Also at the meeting, 17 incidents handled by Falls Township police and assisting agencies were recognized and and awards were handed out to law enforcement.
