BB&T Bank Merges, Changes To Come

Two area BB&T Bank branches are expected to see changes.

North Carolina-based BB&T Bank and Georgia-based SunTrust Banks announced the two companies will merge in an all-stock deal valued at $66 billion.

BB&T Bank operates a branch along Radcliffe Street in Bristol Borough and in the Shoppes At Flowers Mill in Middletown. The company also operates four other locations spread across the central and lower portion of the county.

As part of the merger, the company will change their name and brand. The new name has not yet been announced.

“This is a true merger of equals, combining the best of both companies to create the premier financial institution of the future,” said BB&T Chairman and CEO Kelly S. King. “It’s an extraordinarily attractive financial proposition that provides the scale needed to compete and win in the rapidly evolving world of financial services.

BB&T Bank operates more than 1,800 locations in the eastern portion of the country.
