A basement fire damaged a home in Middletown’s Langhorne section Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to Fite Terrace at 9:14 a.m. and arriving crews found heavy smoke and heat in the basement, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company Chief Frank Farry said.

Crews from area fire companies were quick to get to work and make sure flames were extinguished, Farry said.

The resident of the home has a mobility issue and was safely evacuated from the home, Farry said.

No injuries were reported.

The fire was called in only a few minutes after power was restored to the home following an outage.

Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said the fire started in a dehumidifier and completely burned it up.

“There’s no doubt the dehumidifier is where it happened, but the piece we don’t know yet is how the problem was caused,” McGuire said.

Crews from the Penndel Fire Company and Newtown Fire Association responded to assist the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company. The Penndel-Middletown Emergecny Squad also responded.
