Bristol Township has been granted close to $900,000 that will be used as part of an ongoing multi-phase upgrade to Route 13 in Croydon.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced Tuesday that the township received $884,581 from the state Multimodal Transportation Fund to improve the roadway between the Croydon Train Station and Janet Avenue.

Township Engineer Kurt Schroeder said the work would fit with the three recent projects over the past few years that have upgraded the Route 13 corridor from the Bensalem border to Newportville Road. In addition, PennDOT undertook a project to repave Route 13 from Veterans Highway (Route 413) to the Philadelphia border last year.
Some improvements being eyed for Croydon are sidewalks and a protected shoulder for bicyclists, Schroeder said.
Planners are also looking at potential traffic calming measures for the section of roadway, including the idea of adding blinking pedestrian-activated crossing signs near Dog and Bull Brew and Music House, Schroeder said.

Pedestrians are often seen walking along Route 13 from Veterans Highway to Croydon’s businesses along the roadway. Aside from sidewalks that stretch roughly 2,200 feet, about 1.6 miles of Route 13 between Bensalem and Veterans Highway does not have sidewalks.
Schroeder said there is no start date for next phase of work and a contractor still needs to be hired by the Council. He said the township aims to start the project sooner rather than later.

In addition to Bristol Township, 41 statewide projects received a total of $48 million in funding Tuesday through the Multimodal Transportation Fund, according to the governor’s office and PennDOT.
