Toys R Us and Babies R Us shoppers have made their last purchase at the chain’s two local stores.
The longtime destinations of parents and kids from around Lower Bucks County closed this week after several months of liquidation sales. All of the company’s American stores will close for good Friday.

As of Thursday, Babies R Us at the Court at Oxford Oxford Valley in Falls Township was open only for the sale of fixtures and furniture.
Toys R Us announced in March that they were liquidating after failing to find a buyer. The company was burdened by $5 billion in debt and changes in the marketplace.
The company’s closure will leave more than 30,000 people out of work and cause major impacts across the toy manufacturing industry.

The liquidation sales began on Friday, March 23 and ironically coincided with the death of Charles Lazarus, the founder of the New Jersey-based toy store company.
The future of the Toys R Us property along busy East Lincoln Highway in Middletown is not clear, but the site has seen little maintenance since Toys R Us’ spring announced that they will be closing all their stores. Tall grass grew higher than most kids and a broken glass window was patched with a piece of plywood in the store’s final weeks.

Also, the future of the Babies R Us store at the remains uncertain.
