The man, according to police, suffered a serious but non-life-threatening hand injury and was taken to St. Mary Medical Center for treatment.
Fire Marshal Jim McGuire said his office will investigate the incident.
“People don’t realize how dangerous [fireworks] are because they’re commonplace,” McGuire said. “Even the legal ones can be dangerous.”

In addition to the injury, McGuire said firefighters responded to a small brush fire started by fireworks.
In 2014, 10,500 injuries related to fireworks were reported by American hospitals, according to data from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. McGuire said Middletown officials often deal with numerous fireworks-related injuries every year. In addition, the township had a fatal fireworks incident a few years back.
