Pennsbury Manor is gearing up for quite the renovation.

The Falls Township Board of Supervisors last week approved the $1.5 million batch of improvements to the historical structure this week.

The recreated colonial home of William Penn will soon be upgraded with a new river barge house to replace one that had been severely damaged and moved behind Pennsbury Manorโ€™s visitors center, according to Doug Miller, the siteโ€™s administrator.

Officials noted the current river barge house was reconstructed in the early 1970s following floods in the 1980s. It is not within the line of sight from the river, which makes interpretive demonstrations more difficult.

In addition to a replacement barge house, Pennsbury Manor is planning to undertake carpentry repairs, painting, as well as repairs to windows and doors.
