The eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike are slow moving and the westbound travel lanes remain blocked.

Original Story:

A large fire in the area of the shuttered Pennsylvania Turnpike toll booths closed the roadway to traffic Tuesday morning.

The fire reportedly started with a tractor-trailer in the westbound lanes around 9:10 a.m.

Due to the blaze, both lanes of the Turnpike remained closed in the area of the Delaware Valley interchange toll plaza as of 9:45 a.m.

Thick black smoke and flames that reached more than 25 feet were spotted coming from the fire. The dark smoke could be easily seen throughout Bristol and Levittown.

Several Bristol Township residents told LevittownNow.com they heard several loud booms before spotting the thick column of smoke.

Fire and medical crews from several Levittown-area stations were dispatched to the scene.

There was no immediate word on other vehicle involved or injuries.
