A 72-year-old registered sex offender was placed into custody after he allegedly neglected to notify the Pennsylvania State Police of his change in address.
George Garnett of Levittown was arrested this week and charged with five related felonies, including failure to register, failure to verify address and flight to avoid apprehension. He was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of $75,000 bail.

According to a probable cause affidavit, troopers learned in late January that Garnett was wanted by the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office for a parole violation in reference to a 2006 Tullytown Borough sexual assault case. Garnett had been charged with five related felonies and three misdemeanors in the case.
Troopers learned that Garnett had failed to register as part of his quarterly registration requirements since August 6 and had not notified state police that he had moved out of the Villager Motel on Route 13 South to where police uncovered him at the Quality Inn Hotel in Bristol Township, according to court documents.
While at the state police barracks in Trevose, Garnett relayed that he had checked out of the Villager Motel several months ago and that he didn’t care and didn’t think he should have to register as a sex offender. Garnett allegedly told police he would not register and authorities would “have to come find him.”

Police noted in court documents that letters had been sent to Garnett on October 13 and January 13 reminding him to come in for his quarterly registration. State police also sent investigation letters to the Bristol Township Police Department notifying them that Garnett had failed to register on November 9 and again on January 15.
As of February 1, Garnett had failed to update his residence. Garnett awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 23.
