The election of Strouse, wife of one-time Democratic congressional candidate Kevin Strouse, and Tosti marks a change for Middletown, which has been run by an all-Republican board for the past few years.

Residents said during public comment in 2013 that they would vote out the sitting supervisors if they voted in favor of an Earned Income Tax, which ended up getting approved. The issue was brought to light during the election when signs from Strouse and Tosti that mentioned the tax increase.
Solicitor Joseph Pizzo and several other township professionals were retained by the board. Strouse asked Pizzo to explain his monthly retainer fee of $2,000, which the attorney explained to the board.
