Starting with one car a little more than a year ago, Bobby Klein, now 7 years old, has been on the move in the .25 midget (quarter midget) community.

When Bobby first began racing, in May 2014 at 5 years old, he had one car, and a few months later, one sponsor. In just a little over a year, Klein has risen in terms of sponsorship, races and cars.

One of the noticeable changes for Bobby’s career is the fact that he moved up in racing class. He is now in the Jr. Honda class racing against older kids with more experience. The Jr. Honda class consists of kids up to the age of 9.

Bobby also has a second car, a Briggs-made “Animal” car. The Animal is more powerful than Klein’s original car and allows him to participate in different types of races.

At the beginning of the racing season and throughout, Bobby races at least twice a week, explained his mom, Donna Klein. Although Bobby’s home club is in Pheonixville, he also races at Atco and Weston, depending on where races are taking place on any given day.

During local car shows, Bobby and his cars can usually be found on display. According to Donna Klein, the car shows started at Bobby’s inquiry. The family always attended car shows and Bobby wanted to know if his car could be shown.

“He likes seeing the other cars. He likes the competition aspect of it, but he also likes to just talk to people about his car,” Donna Klein explained at the Halloween Car Show at the Falls Township Community Park last month.

At car shows, Bobby routinely lets other kids his age touch and climb on and around his cars. The shows have not only been fun, they’ve been productive for the 7 year old and his racing. “We’ve gotten two or three sponsors just from the car shows,” Donna Klein explained.

Lykon Automotive in Bristol Township is the main sponsor for Bobby’s first car and Bobby now has a total of 25 sponsors.

Bobby can race in .25 midget until he turns 16, then he can move to .75 midgets, full midgets or microsprint cars.
