Pennsylvania’s budget impasse is costing Bucks County taxpayers $6.5 to $7 million per month.
Bucks County Chief Operating Officer Brian Hessenthaler said last week that the county is putting out the millions of dollars per month to fund human services programs usually funded by the state. Due to the current 100-plus day budget impasse in Harrisburg, all state-run human services programs that benefit Bucks County residents are going unfunded.

Hessenthaler stated that more than $20 million dollars for state-funded human services programs have been fronted by Bucks County. He did not that the state recently approved funding a portion of behavior health services.
“We’re a fortunate county, that we’re able to do that,” Hessenthaler said. “A lot of counties can not do this.”
If the budget impasses continues into January or February, Hessenthaler said Bucks County will run into to some real financial problems.
