A collection event in Bristol Township on Saturday collected almost 100,000 pounds of electronic waste.
E-Waste Experts Inc. of Bristol and the Bucks County Board of Commissioners came together to assist the F.D.R. Middle School Service Learning team to sponsor the collection.

According to Carl Brown, owner of E-Waste Experts, the county helped greatly by bringing in volunteers.
The collection is one of many service learning projects that the members of the service learning team will put forth. The team finds ways to sustain community outreach projects, according to Meredith Mueller, a science teacher at F.D.R. Middle School and one of the lead teachers of the service team.
According to Mueller, the kids will be presenting information on their service project programs at an environmental symposium in Baltimore along with 13 other schools from the east coast.

Although only 18 students in the school are on the team, the entire school body is impacted by the projects the team undertakes. The projects are all based in community need, said Mueller. Other projects have included no waste days, where the school body is challenged not to make any waste for an entire day, and a local endangered species awareness day, where public service announcements are made regarding certain species.
“The kids have a great time and they learn a lot,” said Mueller.

Kevin Boles, principal of FDR Middle School, was in attendance at the collection. “It’s project based, which is key. It’s student driven,” Boles explained.
According to school officials at the collection, Art Feltes was a huge factor for the collection to be successful. Feltes is the head of recycling for Bucks County and works out of the County Commissioner’s office. According to those at the collection who spoke to Levittownnow.com, Feltes had a huge role in advertising the collection and getting the word out, as well as amassing volunteers.
